Review : A New Writing Lifestyle – Just Me and my iPad
When I purchased my iPad, I really wasn’t thinking about it as a helpful writing tool. Boy, was I pleasantly surprised?!
I stay busy with writing projects every day of the week, (excluding weekends most times if possible). If it’s not articles for my website or blogs, it’s writing projects for various clients. It’s usually consistent works in progress for me. I’m constantly working on one project or another, and that’s exactly how I like to fill my work days. Talk about a work from home dream? I most certainly have it, and given the current state of our nation’s weak economy, I consider myself considerably fortunate!
It’s nice being able to incorporate my freelance writing skills to make a legitimate income from home, however, there are times that I have to be away from my home-base computer. I have an elderly father and mother-in-law that needs my attention on any given day.
Well, I certainly thank the good Lord for the invention of the iPad during those times. It’s just the right size to conveniently fit in my purse and can tote my favorite piece of Internet technology virtually anywhere I go. 🙂
While first exploring my iPad, one of the features I discovered on the home screen was text documents. I’m not quite sure why this didn’t occur to me while considering purchasing the iPad in the first place, however, what a nice added bonus to new mobility Internet! 🙂 Quite the jackpot for me with all the writing projects that I encounter.
Not only is this handy device ideal for creating text documents, it’s also Wifi friendly. I quickly realized that I could access the web while at most fast food places and coffee and cafe spots without extra fees from my AT&T service. It’s also convenient for the Wifi feature at most doctor’s offices and hospitals. What a win-win for taking my elderly parents to various appointments.
My writing lifestyle instantly changed for the better to say the least! I’m happy and confident that I can go anywhere in my house with my new mobility device. I can easily and freely write even while watching a favorite program on the tube.
When I’m writing on my iPad, I’m in my own little world. Just me and my iPad, that’s the only way I’ll ever be in a perfect world! lol 🙂
I can work on my couch, in bed, on the deck, (in good weather of course), or on my dinning room table.
The iPad can certainly be challenging at first.
Two issues I personally faced upfront was the copy and paste feature, (which I literally use every day with my line of work), and the clicking/tapping. I was becoming quite the sad camper when first trying to click on links and various things around the web. I went from gentle tapping to pressing hard, and all the while getting more and more frustrated.
Note To Self: You DON’T tap with an iPad, it’s touch friendly. Just a gentle touch is sufficient! 🙂
One more thing, while checking your emails while on the iPad, be warned and BE CAREFUL! You can accidentally click on an email you don’t want opened.
If you haven’t experienced the iPad, or the mini version, you are surely missing out. Try it out, you will love all the free kindle version books and apps! The device (itself) is a bit expensive, however, with Wifi, you will like just how inexpensive it really is, and the mobility is priceless.
A Nice Added Bonus:
I absolutely love the spell check feature that automatically comes with the iPad! Clever and excellent for freelance writers. Absolutely love it, my favorite possession ever! =)
